OK. I KNOW THIS IS PRETTY FUCKING MINOR.
This renaming layers thing in Photoshop is a ginormous pain in my booty as well.
One thing you can do:
Assuming you have your cursor in the Layers palette, (i.e., you are typing in the Layer Name area).
Hit either the “up” or “down” arrow. This will take you to the beginning (or end) of the Layer name.
Hold down the Shift key and hit the “up” or...
